Community Fermentation Union founder and co-owner Gabriel Yospin sent a brief email yesterday saying the business is closed and has been sold. Community Fermentation Union was the youngest brewery in Eugene, having opened in early 2021.
It started selling wood-fired pizzas in February of 2021 in the former La Perla Pizzeria during the tumultuous times of shutdowns and mask mandates. Yospin worked hard to get his brews on tap, first via homebrew system, and then installed a unique 7-barrel “tower” brewing system that began production in February 2022, a year after opening. CFU focused on malt-forward beer, and produced a fine Scottish light ale that paired well with the pizza.
Yospin did not provide any further details about the closure or sale of the business.
