Agrarian Ales

31115 Crossroads Ln W, Eugene, OR 97408
Founded: 2012

One of the three rural brewery locations in the greater Eugene area, and the only farm-based brewery in the South Willamette Valley, Agrarian Ales existed long before it sold beer commercially. Nathan Tilley, one son of the Tilley family that owns Crossroads Farm outside of Coburg, started planting hops on an acre of his parents’ property (Crossroads Farm) and began homebrewing on a 3-tier Blichmann system in a barn on the east side of the property. Now, the brewery consists of a dairy tank mash tun and direct-fire kettle making 5 barrels, and fermenting in old un-jacketed Grundy tanks. Farm livin’ is the life for me!

Agrarian is quite a destination, with a great view of the Coburg hills and a wonderful farmy atmosphere. The beers are guided by seasonal ingredients, like peppers, fruit, herbs and roots, and include both clean and wild ales (which are available in beautifully labeled bottles). The tasting room closes down for winter, so find beer on tap locally and in Portland; but really, go out there and enjoy the space!

The farm hosts an annual hop picking party, where you volunteer (for the occasional beer token) picking hops off the cut bines, listening to music, and having a great time with friends. Do it!
