‘Fire ‘n Cupcakes: ColdFire’s Fourth Anniversary

ColdFire Brewing enters its fifth year this weekend, January 17-19, and celebrates in its own classic style with beer and free cupcakes to pair, live music, and barrel-aged beers tapped each day. The fourth anniversary, like the third, saw ColdFire receive an honorable mention on the “underrated” charts of the New School’s annual what’s-what rundown. I don’t know anybody around here who’d say that, so it must be the Portland-dense voting panel who just don’t see ColdFire up there more often. Know why? Because we’re drinking it all, folks!

Underrated has a connotation of “why is this still sitting on a shelf, it’s awesome!” Or, “I always forget they’re there, but I love the beer.” This is certainly not the case with ColdFire, as the tasting room is routinely full and the taps change at a moderate clip. The signature Celtic knot tap handles can be seen all over town, and rows of cans rarely stay full on store shelves. ColdFire is not underrated; nor is it overrated. Perhaps it’s just rated (like “whelmed”), but that doesn’t sound quite right. Maybe Portlanders are jealous they don’t have a ColdFire.

That’s all from me, here’s the dirty details:

Friday 1/17

That community favorite IPA, Cumulus Tropicalus, leads the charge with a special of half price from noon to 4 as a way for us to express our thanks for all the citrus loving fans. We will be giving out cupcakes made with Cumulus and Honky Tonk Angel (a dark lager made with our friends at Izakay Meiji), with the purchase of a beverage. Try the suggested pairing or find something unique on your own. Bonus: free mini cupcakes for the kids. Double Bonus, we got our friends Dirty Spoon to come jam for us! Join us as they bring their hills stomping, knee thumping good tunes to our taproom. Music starts at 6pm. Kids welcome until 9pm. Food Trucks, dessert and Barrel Aged Beer. Special Barrel Tapping: Foeder on Peche, The Branch the Barrel and the Vine.

Saturday 1/18

Saturday we are back with more cupcakes this time made with St. James India Red Ale and our Nocturne Sonnet Imperial Chocolate Porter. Mark Alan, one of our absolute favorite musicians returns to fine form in our taproom. Mark’s soulful acoustic guitar and singing will pair nicely with that dinner, desert and barrel aged beer in your hand. Music starts at 6pm. Kids welcome until 9pm. Mini cupcakes available for the kids. Special Barrel Tapping: Vintage Seeds of Infinity, Foeder on Blackberry.

Sunday 1/19

Day 3 caps the fun and celebration with another round of cupcakes, this time made with Citra Solstice, a black IPA and our American Stout. Andrew Robinson starts his acoustic set at 3pm, singing classic Americana. Bring the kiddos and get the last cupcake fix before it’s over. Enjoy lunch or dinner from our very own food truck, ColdFire Eats. Special Barrel Tapping: 2018 Bourbon Council & 2019 Bourbon Council.

  1. I’d say underrated as you don’t hear them hyped outside of Eugene much, but in Eugene we know their beer is consistently good.
